The Honeypot Hawkshead

First things first, go to Tthe Honeypot and order yourself one of our amazing take-away rolls, have a look here - TAKE AWAY

Then start your walk right outside our doors!

Walk toward the Queens Head pub trying not to stop for a pint of Lakeland ale, turn left and walk past the Post Office and Red Lion Pub. Take the first left and continue walking until you reach the archway on Vicarage Lane which takes you out of the village. After about 100 yds, take the footpath on the right across the field and up the hill.

Go through a gate stile  and follow the track through a small wood and over the stream. Climb a short embankment and enter the field (Thompson Ground).

Follow the path across a farm track and continue straight ahead towards the road

Turn left onto Hawkshead Hill, and take the next right sign posted for Tarn Hows At the next road junction, turn right towards Knipe Fold and Ambleside. After about 200 yds, turn left onto the track/footpath. Follow this through a small hamlet and up a gentle hill passing through two gates at the top. In the clearing watch out  for a small stile in the wall on the right, take this and walk across the field towards a delightful National Trust property call Rose Cottage, perched over looking Tarn Hows.  Follow the track behind the cottage, and take the first right turn zigzagging down to the lakeside.

Here you will be able to join a lovely path which goes right around Tarn Hows, and you can walk either way round.

As you get to the far side, about half way round look for a path on the left/right signed  Arnside and Langdales, you may want to stop here and have your lovely "Honey Pot sarnies and rolls or pies!

Take this path and follow until you get to a walled  lane.Turn right (signed Hawkshead) and follow the lane up the hill and down the other side to the road.  Turn right and then left.  After about 50yds, just past some houses, take the footpath through a small stile on the right.  Go straight up the field (indistinct path) first to a stile in the fence and then one in a wall. Climb this and follow the path keeping right where necessary. This leads to the Hawkshead Hill road.

Turn left and retrace your steps back to  the The Honeypot. Surely its time for one of our Lakeland ice-creams now?
